UNC Charlotte Selected as an NSF Innovation Corps Site

The UNC Charlotte proposal for a Ventureprise Charlotte Launch program was selected as an NSF I-Corps Site in a nationally competitive solicitation by the National Science Foundation. The selection also designates UNC Charlotte as one of 36 universities that are part of the NSF National Innovation Network.

2014 Hackathon at PORTAL

Our friends at Tresata organized an overnight hackathon that attracted 100+ dedicated developers to the PORTAL building. Teams worked to “predict, model, plan and present the best, most attractive and creative ways to deliver groceries to customers using open source technology.” UNC TV offers a comprehensive video story that can be viewed here.

Charlotte Entrepreneurs Raise Economic Impact Awareness

Ventureprise, Inc., in partnership with the Business Innovation & Growth Council (BIG) and UNC Charlotte Urban Institute, are calling on entrepreneurial leaders to help promote the combined impact their entrepreneurial businesses have had on the Charlotte regional economy. The Urban Institute will gather confidential survey data from high growth companies for inclusion in the inaugural publication of the Charlotte Entrepreneur Growth Report (CEGR).

BIG launched an Annual Entrepreneurial Index in 2012 led by David Jones, Chairman of Peak 10, which surveyed its membership and regional entrepreneurs for economic impact data. This year’s annual entrepreneurial survey will be expanded through collaboration with vested partners, making greater participation especially impactful.

2015 Charlotte Venture Challenge Winners Selected

30 early-stage innovation based companies from throughout the Southeast pitched to investors and corporate innovation executives at the 14th annual Charlotte Venture Challenge on March 31st, 2015. The competition for nearly $50,000 of cash prizes took place at the Southeast Venture Conference which attracted over 700 investors, entrepreneurs, and other attendees to Charlotte. The Charlotte Venture Challenge finalists included companies from North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington D.C. Student teams represented seven colleges and universities.

Three UNC Charlotte Student Teams to Compete in Social Entrepreneurship Conference

February 9, 2015

The UNC General Administration will host the 2015 Social Entrepreneurship Conference on February 11 at N.C. A&T State University in Greensboro, where 27 undergrad team entrants and 16 graduate team entrants from across the UNC system will compete.

The three teams from UNC Charlotte are:  Team GASP, The Social Traveler's Program, and Joinup.
