Further congratulations to Countervail Corporation who recently announced that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), has exercised a contract option for an additional $5.4 million for the further development of galantamin hydrobromide, under the trade name AverTox, as a medical countermeasure to the toxic effects of organophosphorus based nerve agents.

Countervail Corporation Awarded Additional $343,000 SBIR Phase II Grant
Congratulations are in order to Countervail Corporation for the recent Fast Track SBIR Phase II Grant award they received from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Countervail is a biotechnology company that is developing a broad spectrum medical countermeasure to the toxic effects of organophosphorus based nerve agents as well as a large class of pesticides for the protection of military and civilian populations.
President, Bill Basinger stated, "We are pleased to have successfully completed the performance milestones required in the first phase of the SBIR grand and look forward to success in phase II."
Solar Decathlon National Competition
UNC Charlotte's entry: UrbanEden
The Department of Energy is sponsoring a "Solar Decathlon" national competition. Students and faculty within UNC Charlotte's College of Arts & Architecture, College of Engineering and College of Business who have been involved in this competition have developed a net-zero energy, solar-powered home called UrbanEden. This urban house, designed for young professionals or empty-nesters, has a strong connection between indoor and outdoor living areas. The house is designed for the city of Charlotte.
